Opal ABS and Private Credit 2024 Update

Hello All:

As we just returned from the Opal ABS and Private Credit 2024 Conference in Dana Point I wanted to share some observations with you as the Conference was very well attended with over 600 industry attendees, and a stable of great industry experts who gave their time to speak. The event kicked off on Wednesday afternoon with a handful of panels, followed by a very nice networking/ cocktail event at 5:30PM.

On the main stage on Thursday, my good friend David Kimble, CEO of Prosper, for the 5^th straight year, provided the audience with a state of the industry Keynote Fireside Chat. David’s remarks are always well received as he has spent over 20+ years in the consumer finance space.

At 9AM, for the 9^th year in a row on the main stage, I was honored to moderate the important panel on ABS and Private Credit Portfolio Performance with Jack Kahan of KBRA, Chris Johnson of ECN Capital Corp., Fed Wang from Hudson Cove and Jim Landy, CEO of Car Finance Capital. We had an engaging discussion with a “packed-house” as our panel always provides the real world analysis of portfolio performance, industry trends, industry insights, and relevant discussions, including capital issues, operations issues, servicing issues (recent layoffs, outsourcing US servicing jobs to India, recent federal convictions and fines, and consolidation) and a review of back-up servicing, and the diversification of counter party risks by lenders and the agencies.

The conference then broke into two tracks and the panels that were well received were the AI Panel and the interesting discussion on Music Royalty ABS. As always, the luncheon held outdoors overlooking the Pacific Ocean is an event at Opal not to be missed too.

I ran into many friends and clients here in Dana Point as we had 25 meetings in between the conference break out sessions. Many thanks to Lauren Batista, Suzanne Zinn, and Abe Wellington from Opal, who once again outdid themselves. We look forward to Opal’s 10^th Anniversary event in December 2025.
